Elijah House Academy has begun an economics program which has received local and state honors from the Virginia Council on Economic Education, as well as national honors from the National Federation of Independent Businesses. This program (School as a Marketplace) is designed to promote an understanding of the free enterprise system, acquisition of basic living skills, and development of entrepreneurial aspirations.EHA was recently honored by the Valentine Richmond History Center as the winning school for the 2006 Richmond History Makers in the category of “Creating Quality Educational Opportunities” for the Richmond Metro Area. A recent analysis of our 2008-2009 National Stanford Test indicates that Elijah House Academy students improve their national percentile ranking by 2.0 points for each year of attendance. In other words, if a student enters Elijah House Academy scoring at the Richmond average of 37th percentile, he/she will score at the 39th percentile after one year, 41st percentile after two years, 43rd percentile after three years, and so forth.
Similarly, our average student progresses 1.1 grade levels per year of attendance. This is exceptional! As a result, 79% of our students score at grade level or better according to the Stanford Test. Just as important as academic progress is the moral, emotional and spiritual growth our students are able to achieve. By providing a loving, safe and structured environment, we are able to nurture our students’ spirit and character. Elijah House Academy is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International and the National Association of Street Schools.
